Molluscum removal – Molluscum contagiosum (molluscum contagiosum) is a viral, contagious disease that most often occurs in children aged 3 months to 16 years, and in adults it is a sexually transmitted disease.

The causative agent is a virus, which is transmitted through direct contact or through water in swimming pools. The disease is often seen in people with atopic dermatitis, immunosuppressed people and people with HIV infection. Molluscum contagiosum develops from 14 days to 6 months after exposure to the virus, on any part of the body, and tends to resolve spontaneously after a few months.

The disease is characterized by the appearance of papules – pimples, 2 to 5 mm in size, which are the color of normal skin and have an umbilical center, grouped or individually distributed. In children, the changes are most often present on the trunk, face and extremities, and in adults on the thighs, stomach and genitals.

Molluscum contagiosum should be distinguished from warts, with which they are often confused.

The disease is benign in nature, but viral and may tend to spontaneously resolve after a few months. Much more often it happens that a large number of new changes arise from one, which is why treatment is needed.

Previously, molluscs were most often removed by curettage. Curettage is a very unpleasant and painful procedure with a lot of blood, ugly scars and great trauma in children.

The most effective method of removing molluscs is using liquid nitrogen – cryotherapy. Cryotherapy is generally singled out as the method of choice for the removal of molluscs because it is fast, painless, effective and financially the most favorable. Cryotherapy is the only method by which molluscs are removed without scarring.

For the removal of molluscs by cryotherapy, only one intervention is generally sufficient. The use of the most modern Brymill apparatus with different types of applicators allows liquid nitrogen to be applied with high control and precision, without damaging the surrounding healthy skin.

SkinCare Center therapists have undergone training for the application of cryotherapy in medical care and have a Brymill certificate.
